What Happens During My Liposculpture Consultation?

We often hear from our patients and visitors at Pacific Lipo that they have been thinking about or researching liposuction and the different techniques available. Some say they had been considering the procedure for months or even years before they took the step forward. One of the main reasons for this hesitation is uncertainty. Uncertainty about the procedure, if it is right for them, or if it will give the results that they are looking for. At Pacific Lipo, these are things we consider as well; we want to ensure that liposculpture is the right fit for you, which is why we provide free consultations to those considering the procedure.

So what happens at a consultation? Consultations are held with Rod Davis, PA, who also performs all of the liposculpture procedures at Pacific Lipo. Together, you will discuss the changes that you would like to make in your appearance. The different options available will be explained to you, along with the procedure itself with its risks and limitations. Our goal is to give you knowledge about the procedure and realistic results so that you can decide if this is the right procedure for you.

To schedule a consultation with liposculpture specialist, Rod Davis, PA, call 858.427.8899 or submit a virtual consultation at www.pacificlipo.com.

"...Beyond 100% Pleased ..."

Pacific Lipo and the entire staff is top notch, the best it can possibly get.  From their stellar work to their amazing customer service, I would never go anywhere else besides Pacific Lipo for all my procedures and would recommend them to anyone interested in having liposculpture.  I first sought out this procedure at another office in the San Diego area.  The doctor there spent little time with me and was not very thorough in explaining the procedure.  I was almost entirely discouraged away from having the procedure performed, until I heard about and read the amazing reviews on Pacific Lipo.  And let me tell you, they exceed all expectations! I first came into contact with Stefani and Jasmine over the phone for scheduling my initial consultation.  They are both so kind, caring, and accommodating.  They worked with me on setting up the consult that best works with my time frame and considering that I am not local.  They were very prompt and consistent with follow-up reminders.  When I arrived at PL, they greeted me like family, asked me if I needed anything (water/snacks), seemed genuinely interested in asking me how my day was going, and gave me information they could as I waited for my consult with Rod, the Director of Surgery.  When I went in for my consult, I was very nervous to bare my bottom to a male I had never met before (I was interested in the inner thigh area). Rod's professionalism is outstanding! He made me feel very comfortable, thoroughly informed me of the procedure, took the time to answer all my questions, and provided me with his input on the area I was looking into having work done.  I made an appointment a few months down the line from the initial consult (early October).  Stefani and Jasmine were great in following up via phone an email with reminders and pre-operative care. They even helped with walking me through the financing options (I enrolled for the Discover It card to have the procedure performed). The day of the procedure, I was soooooo nervous! I could hardly take it! But Leti, the nurse on staff, came in with me in the beginning and asked me if I wanted to hold her hand - I was taken aback by her kindness! I was so scared at first, but she held my hand and spoke to me, and I swear I could have broken her hand by how hard I was squeezing! - but she was entirely focused on me and my experience in comforting me. She is truly an angel. After Rod did the prepping and the anesthesia, I was shocked by how simple the procedure was. Rod is beyond amazing at what he does. During the ENTIRE procedure, he engaged me in conversation. It completely took my mind off of what was going on, and even was enjoyable at times as we shared stories about recent travels and such. His demeanor overall is not only highly professional, but also warm and inviting, it makes the experience a great one. It has been one month since my procedure, and I can't tell you how amazing my results are! My thighs look slim and slender as if I was taken back 10 years to my dancing days! I am beyond 100% pleased with the service and outcome, I highly recommend this establishment to anyone considering liposculpture, and I am definitely a life-long patient. Thank you Stefani, Jasmine, Leti, and Rod for your outstanding work and kindness.

Variation of Liposuction Results

There are a few reasons why someone may end up with less than perfect results from a perfectly performed liposuction procedure.  One reason can be due to skin laxity.  He or she may have looser skin or pre-existing stretch marks.  It is a sign that the desired amount of post liposuction skin tightening may not be possible. In addition, some people may have had prior surgeries with large amounts of scarring.  This could significantly limit the potential for smoothness after a lipo procedure. It is also vital for patients to follow all post-op instructions. Some patients may not have followed up regularly with office visits or phone call as instructed. Following a liposculpture procedure, we encourage an active, healthy lifestyle.  Some patients do not continue to exercise and diet afterwards to ensure optimal results. As with any type of procedure, there is a variation of results.
To get a better idea of how results vary for patients with different body types, prior surgical scars, varying degrees of laxity, and more, visit Pacific Lipo's Before & After Photo Gallery.
Although results may vary, one can still appreciate the significant improvement that may be achieved when the procedure is performed by an experience liposuction specialist.  That being said, patients must keep in mind that not everyone will be completely thrilled with their results, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the technique used by the liposuctionist was poor.  Sometimes our body don't heal as nicely as we would all hope.  The goal of any lipo procedure is to help every patient look much better but unfortunately not every patient will feel better despite all reasonable efforts.

What is Liposculpture?

PACIFIC LIPO | BODY CONTOURING | SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

Liposculpture is also known as Body Sculpting, Body Contouring, Lipo, Lipotherme, and Liposuction.  Liposculpturing involves a more artistic approach to liposuction.  This new liposuction technique gently and safely removes fat while minimizing the risk of skin irregularities and other more serious complications compared to the more conventional liposuction methods.

Liposculpture is much less invasive than traditional liposuction and the results are just as permanent.  Microsurgery techniques reshape problem areas of the body without significant trauma to the patient.  As a result, there is minimal bruising and the tiny 1-2 mm scars are almost nonexistent after healing for most patients.

New liposuction techniques utilize one or more of a broad array of technologies including laser, ultrasound, power-assisted micro-cannulas, or a combination of these techniques.  Whether it's your thighs, love handles, abdomen, arms, legs, or chin/neck that need reduction, liposculpture may be the permanent solution that you have been seeking.
Each area of the body can be tailored using the new liposuction techniques performed by our expert staff.  Liposculpture is all we do!  Have you been eager to take inches off your mid-section?  How about having thinner looking thighs or a better shaped bottom?  Our specialized techniques can significantly alter the appearance of your body with minimal discomfort.

Our staff has performed more than 15,000 procedures and we are here and ready to put our experience and expertise to work today to make your life better.

Prepare For Your Liposculpture Procedure

Preparation for your procedure is smooth and effortless.  At your consultation you will have the opportunity to learn about liposculpture and if this procedure is right for you.  You will meet with our Director of Surgery, Rod Davis, PA-C, who performs all of our procedure here at Pacific Lipo.  We will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.  Our patients are provided with a list of products to avoid prior to their procedure; following this list can help your healing and recovery process.  Since liposculpture is a minimally invasive procedure most patients will not need any lab tests or blood work.

On the day of the procedure, you are able to eat a light meal, drink fluids, and even wear makeup.  Loose fitting clothing is the best attire to wear on the day of your procedure so that you are comfortable afterwards.  If you happen to bring a friend or family member with you, we will accommodate them with a private room where they may relax until your procedure has been completed and you are ready to go home.

Consults are free and offer you the opportunity to learn what this procedure can do for you.

Rodney Davis and the whole staff at Pacific Lipo have been awesome! Very friendly and informative throughout the process!  If you are considering liposculpture, I highly recommend checking out Pacific Lipo!  You won’t be disappointed.   -C.M. from San Diego, CA

Inner Knee Lipo

Are you bothered by the fatty bulge on the inside of your knees?

The inner knee is another area that is near impossible to get rid of through diet and exercise alone. This isolated area can accumulate a pocket of fat and may give the appearance of "chunky" thighs or knees. Removing the stubborn fat from this area can have a large impact on your legs’ overall appearance.

The inner knee liposculpture procedure takes approximately 60-90 minutes and is often combined with inner thigh liposculpture for smoother, slender legs.

"Rod finished up with the thighs and then moved onto my abs. The procedure was about two hours, when I stood up and look down at my body, I was shocked that I looked sooo slim, my abs and my legs looked awesome!"  -Brooke M. from San Diego, CA

Today's Tumescent Liposculpture Vs. Traditional Liposuction

Author: Rodney Davis, Physician Assistant

Not very long ago, getting the shape that you always wanted required invasive surgery that almost certainly resulted in significant postoperative pain, obvious bruising, an increased risk of complications – not to mention an extended recovery time. Yesterday’s liposuction was risky, difficult, and surprisingly is still practiced  by most plastic surgeons who offer liposuction as just one of the several different procedures that they try to squeeze into an already exhaustive list of other cosmetic services. Liposuction is considered a major surgery, sometimes resulting in serious complications in the operating room, causes major bruising, and unsightly scars. This was and remains an aggressive procedure that produces deep bruises and sometimes requires stitches. This in turn can lead to increased scar formation.

Today’s tumescent liposuction, also known as Liposculpture, is a much safer procedure with minimal downtime.  Liposculpture is an advanced form of liposuction that leads to gentler body sculpting and more precise results. Unlike traditional liposuction with general anesthesia, liposculpture patients remain awake while their fat is removed with very tiny instruments. And, because Liposculpture doesn’t use the same heavy sedatives as traditional liposuction, most patients are able to walk out of the treatment offices immediately following the procedure. A good portion of liposculpture patients are able to return to most activities in 1 to 2 days. The tumescent liposuction procedure also stimulates the collagen-producing agents in skin, leaving skin firmer and smoother.

Liposculpture is less invasive. Most areas of the body require only 1 to 2 tiny incisions. The cannula, or straw-like tool that is used to suck out fat, is only 2-3 millimeters wide –that’s about the size of a cooked piece of spaghetti. The incisions resulting from the procedure are barely noticeable after only a few weeks. Because the cannulas are so much smaller than the ones used in traditional liposuction, you won’t experience the unsightly scars that sometimes accompany traditional liposuction.

Liposculpture is more gentle. When using larger instruments in
traditional liposuction, providers generally make larger, more aggressive strokes while removing fat. Liposculpture uses smaller cannulas, all procedures are performed with shorter, gentler strokes. Patients usually experience only mild soreness the day after the procedure – something equivalent to post-exercise muscle ache. Tumescent liposuction may take longer than traditional liposuction, but the procedure leaves minimal bruising and pain. With today’s Liposculpture, you get the same results as traditional liposuction without all of the bruising and scarring.

Liposculpture is not considered a major surgery, it is a completely outpatient procedure.  Some patients even drive themselves home from the procedure. Many of the serious complications associated with traditional liposuction occurred because the patient was under heavy anesthesia. Patients under heavy anesthesia are unable to tell their provider if the procedure is too aggressive or causing unusual amounts of pain.  With Tumescent Liposuction, complications due to general anesthesia are eliminated. Patients remain awake under light or no sedation, and always able to communicate anything they are feeling. And, because Liposculpture uses only local anesthetic, patients are less likely to experience adverse reactions. Gentle and minimally invasive, most patients are on their feet the next day, and enjoying their new body in no time.

Tummy Tuck Alternative

Author Rod Davis, PA-C

In any consultation, I want to give patients realistic expectations of what the liposculpture procedure can do for them.  I initially told this patient that she may be happier with a tummy tuck in addition to lipo. I also mentioned that there was a good possibility her skin would remain somewhat loose even after a perfectly performed lipo procedure.  She did not want to undergo an invasive procedure like adominoplasty (tummy tuck) and finally chose lipo as an alternative.   In just 6 weeks this patient enjoyed dramatic results and was thrilled with the outcome.  Her results continued to improve.

"...Let me tell you when i went for my consultation i was very [embarrassed] for Rod to see my stomach, because it was something that was very difficult to show people, but Rod made me so comfortable, and advised me that he would be able to help me,but wasn't sure of the results that would come but assured me that I would see a difference. Right away I scheduled my procedure I had lipo done on October 8th. and let me tell you that this was the best money that we have ever spent!!!! .... I am now 4 months post lipo and I felt it was time to share this because the results that I have had are unbelievable, I am in shock at the results that I have, and I can actually wear tight fitting shirts now rather then wearing big shirts to hide my stomach..i just can't say enough about Rod and his staff they have absolutely changed my life!!!!!!!"

Chin Liposculpture - The Alternative To A Lift

Chin Liposculpture is a favorite at Pacific Lipo. Many of our patients are bothered by a “double chin” or “turkey neck” and have sought out an alternative to reduce these problems areas. This excess fat around the face can make an individual look heavy or older than they actually are. Now there is a safe and minimally invasive way to achieve a more defined jawline, which can help you to look thinner, younger, and healthier without the downtime or scarring of a face lift or facial reconstruction.

Results are permanent and incisions are inconspicuous once healed. Visit Pacific Lipo's Chin Gallery to view more before and after photos of patients that have had life changing results.

"I would never even consider going anywhere else. Rod Davis is the best in the world of lipo. I first saw him for removal of my double chin--the results were amazing! The same weekend, I got a perm, and when I returned to work, some of my co-workers did not even recognize me! " -Nancy H. from San Diego, CA

Local Anesthesia vs. General Anesthsia

Author Rod Davis, PA-C, Director of Surgery at Pacific Lipo

Liposculpture under local anesthesia is the safest way to have liposuction. However, there are some people who may find it more uncomfortable than most other patients. I once performed a procedure on a patient who shared with me (after starting her procedure) that she always has difficulty when going to her dentist and requires multiple injections of the anesthetic to complete her dental procedures. Such people are commonly referred to as “lidocaine resistant” and may have a more comfortable experience if they were under general anesthesia (sleeping). However, general anesthesia is less safe and much more expensive. There were a handful of times when we stopped for a few minutes to add extra anesthetic during this person’s procedure but this is expected. She was still able to complete her procedure and even drive herself home afterwards. She scheduled another procedure in our office immediately afterwards. :)

Many members of our staff, including myself, have had a liposculpture (lipo) procedure. Most patients anticipate that lipo will not be a completely pain-free event for every patient but neither is laser hair removal, waxing, Botox, dental procedures, etc. So like many other procedures, one should have some expectation of momentary discomfort but most patients are pleasantly surprised.

The numbing phase tends to be the only uncomfortable part but normally just last for 5-10 minutes. Anyone can view website videos of actual patients having the same procedure that this person had but they are clearly comfortable and experiencing no pain while having their problem areas reshaped. Please visit Pacific Lipo's YouTube Channel to see patients having a procedure.

As for the incisions, we do not use stitches which allows for a couple of days of drainage (lessens swelling and bruising). Therefore, the incisions are still a little stretched immediately following the procedure. They normally heal about the size of a freckle and sometimes fade significantly but that takes some time. The incisions do shrink, bruising does fade, and the discomfort usually passes after a 2-6 weeks. To view before and photos of what incisions and results may look like immediately after our procedures (1 week later, 1 month, and several months after) , please visit Pacific Lipo's Photo Gallery.

Consultations are free and pricing is all-inclusive.  Please call a Pacific Lipo Patient Coordinator at (858) 427-8899 for details or to scheduled a complimentary consultation.

Is Laser Liposuction the Right Choice for You?

Author Rod Davis, PA-C, Director of Surgery, Pacific Lipo

In our increasingly beauty obsessed society, it seems like more of us are choosing to seek out cosmetic surgery to improve any flaws (whether real or perceived). Of these cosmetic procedures, one of the most popular is Laser Liposcuction (also knows as Laser Lipo, Smart Lipo or Lunchtime Lipo).

Laser liposuction involves the use of a laser to “melt away” fatty deposits and then tightens the surrounding skin. This technique was first discovered in Europe and has recently become FDA approved for use in the USA. Laser liposuction has been used for the past 10 years in South America, Europe and Asia. The procedure is typically done in an office setting and does not require the use of a general anesthetic. A very small cannula, or tube, approximately 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm in diameter containing a laser fiber is inserted into the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth delivering the laser’s energy to the fat cells, causing them to rupture and easily drain away. The fluid released from the fat cells is removed by the body’s natural waste system. The laser also causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, thus resulting in less bleeding and bruising.

Some liposuctionists report that one of the advantages of laser liposuction is the fact that the probability of scarring, muscle damage, or pain tends to be smaller than more traditional liposuction methods. As a result, the patient is usually able to return to work within 48-hours. One of the disadvantages of laser liposuction is that it may only be useful on a limited variety of body areas. These body parts include the neck, face, and arms. Some patients do not report a dramatic enough difference in their shapes or skin tightening following laser liposuction is used in other areas such as the abdomen, thighs, back areas, or the love handles.  This may be due to today’s lasers not being quite aggressive enough in creating a significant change in the thickness of the fat deposits for most body types. There is also some doubt among liposuction specialists as to exactly how effective laser liposuction is when it comes to skin tightening. That being said, laser liposuction can be an effective procedure for a small portion of liposuction candidates.

Pricing of this procedure varies a great deal depending on how much fat you want removed, which body part is being treated, or which office you seek treatment in. Patients who are interested in this procedure should seek treatment in a facility that specializes in liposculpture. It is much more likely that their results will be better compared to other less experienced offices and the pricing often times is more affordable. Pricing to selecting any method of liposuction, one should contact a liposuction specialist to find out what this procedure can do for their particular problem area.

For more information on Liposuction in San Diego, please contact Pacific Liposculpture at (858) 427-8899. To ask Rod Davis, Physician Assistant a liposuction question – email rod@pacificlipo.com.
